The Agent is a small and lightweight software application that is installed on your own server or client PC.  It's main function is to provide secure file transfer of your payment files and reports to and from the paygate service.

It is an optional component and you can choose to not use it.

Many payments, especially bulk payments, originate in a file - usually created  by a finance or accounting package. The question is then, how do you get those sensitive payment files to the paygate service in a manageable, efficient and secure way.  One answer is to use the Agent.

The Agent does the following:

• Encrypts sensitive payment files before they leave your LAN.
• Highly secure file transfer of files to and from the paygate service.
• File archiving
• Provides a management interface to control which files are sent / received to and from the paygate service.

File level 'At rest security'

The Agent can optionally encrypt your sensitive payment files.  Encryption takes place while the files are on your own LAN.  This helps to protect your payment files while they are waiting to be sent to the paygate service, while they are in transit across the public Internet on their way to the service and also while they are waiting to be processed within the paygate service.  Once encrypted, only a secure process within the paygate service is able to decrypt them.

Secure File Uploads

Agent can transfer files from your secure LAN to the paygate service in a highly secure way.  The SFTP (SSH File Transfer) protocol is used to transfer files.  SFTP is a tried and tested file transfer protocol used and trusted by banks and other financial institutions to transfer sensitive files across public networks.  

Secure File Downloads

There are a number of times when you will want to download files from the paygate service.  

• To download reports produced by the paygate service.
• To download a payment file that the service has created.
• To download a receipt or exceptions list.
